Stem the Bleeding: A First Aid Kit for Amazon-direct PPC Affiliates

What’s in this post? I’m going to explain potential reasons for Amazon’s decision to ban merchant-direct PPC, then I’m going to share steps you can take to help your affiliate business compete with challenges like this in the short term i.e. what to do now, and to avoid them altogether further into the long term.
I’ll [...]

Bondi and Beyond

We were tying up the loose ends in Sydney last Monday (8/6/2009).  Still staying in the Strand hotel on William St in Darlinghurst we decided to make the most of a beautifully sunny, but chilly Sydney morning and hit Bondi beach.
A short hop from King’s Cross Rail Station to Bondi Junction and a skip via [...]

Sydney: The Good, The Bad and The Unclear.

So it’s been nearly a week outside the UK and that makes it time to update the blog, it feels like we’ve already been about a month in Sydney, amazing how quickly you’re sucked into the different ways of doing things.  We’ve had a couple of days of sun which has been a welcome relief [...]

Proof: Content spamming with javascript works

It would seem that things are tough at the top.  Of course I mean the top of the SERPs for terms like ‘SEO’, ‘Search engine optimis(z)ation’ and the like.  This is a seriously competitive space for vanity rankings – so I tend to have a nosey around now and then.  And whilst we all blog, talk and [...]

Cardiff SEO Update

Cardiff SEO Update
Looks like I’ve been done – James is now ranking much higher than I am for his Bristol version of Cardiff SEO.
Here are the results as it stands for UK and US:
James – 7th, 6th
Cole – 13th, 15th
One day left, can I pull it out of the bag?

Why SEOs should stop link-building

Because your PR team are probably doing something right now that could be more valuable.
Honestly, everytime I read an article on link building techniques or a link buidling tutorial I can’t help but think about the last time I spoke with our PR guru.  He’s a talented and animated chap with an excellent eye for [...]

Social Network? More like Social Not-work

Very simply – Social media as a concept is muddied and amorphous. Obviously, we’ve already seen a stampede of hip advertisers and cynical brands into those spaces; testing ‘messages’, ad models, cut through and viral activity.
As with every other media channel, barriers to entry creep lower and lower allowing far too many people to [...]

Forgot Django admin password? Reset it on the command line.

Just a quick post. Was just rerouting some of my django stuff so I can hang a test site that I was working on from a new domain and realised that I’d forgotten my admin password doh!
So instead of farting around hashing a replacement and putting it in the database I thought I’d have [...]

Zimbabwe economic crisis: What is going on?

Some of you may know I was lucky enough to spend part of my childhood growing up in Harare, Zimbabwe.  The time I enjoyed there has made me even more angry about the decline of the country that was once known as the ‘bread basket of Africa’.

SEO and PPC skillsets: A further fun-alysis

I really enjoyed a post by Kate Morris on New Edge Media regarding the skillsets of PPC and SEO Managers, where they meet and where they differ.
I won’t go over that again but it did get me wistfully thinking about how much fun I’ve had acquiring these skills and sent me off on a jaunt [...]
